Art for VAP

Ellen Spencer is a well known artist, health advocate, longtime environmental activist and published poet. She suffers from a very painful woman’s disease called endometriosis, and her eclectic work reflects her passion in women's health and its connection to the environment. She has generously partnered with VAP to offer her breathtaking, inspirational artwork at greatly reduced rates. Proceeds will be generously donated to VAP. Later this year Ellen and VAP will also present an “Art for Autism-Autoimmunity” exhibit and fundraiser in NYC. Ellen is originally from the Boston area, but has been residing in the San Francisco bay area for the past 10 years. Her studio is in Oakland, CA where she lives with her husband Jared Cornell. Ellen attended the Walnut Hill School of Performing Arts and the University of Massachusetts. She works in oils, acrylic, watercolor and mixed media depending on the series. In her innovative, richly textured works she uses a combination of traditional paints and unorthodox media such as dried herbs, and other natural objects. Abstract and sophisticated, these works evoke a primitive strength and sense of universal unity: through a spectrum of natural colors and textures inspired by earth and atmosphere, Ellen’s art seeks to uncover the dark beauty inherent in the organic world. At once ebullient and elegant, Ellen's paintings describe the timeless, innate link between humans - particularly women - and the environment.

She has been commissioned many times for her brilliant colored mixed media abstractions and her contemporary celebration of the female form. She has been represented by Ariel Gallery, New York and Art Speak magazine hailed her work as, “Exuberant and Exciting.” Ellen is currently represented by ARTworks Gallery in San Francisco, CA and Agora Gallery in New York, NY.
